2011 Illinois Farm Bureau Federal Priority Issues

January 23, 2011

Everyone has a to-do list.  This one is mine for 2011 — give or take a few issues — courtesy of the Illinois Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

 Some of these priorities are very self-explanatory.  Others are a bit more cryptic.  I have more to say about each of them soon.

  • Urge Congress to pursue a vigorous program of oversight of the regulatory agenda of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency;
  • Make FIFRA the controlling statute for the routine application of crop protection products near water;
  • Ratify the Korea FTA and other pending free trade agreements and pursue policies to expand international markets for Illinois agricultural exports;
  • Repeal the Form 1099 requirements;
  • Expand market access and retain vital federal investment and support for renewable fuels;
  • Protect farm bill funding, educate new members of Congress on the value of farm policy and lay the groundwork for success in the upcoming farm bill debate;
  • Support critical transportation improvements to our roads, rivers and rails;
  • Work to make current estate tax provisions permanent.
