House Republicans schedule Jan 12 vote to repeal HCR

January 4, 2011

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner says the House will keep its Pledge to America and vote next week to repeal the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.

The repeal bill is just two pages.

“Obamacare is a job killer for businesses small and large, and the top priority for House Republicans is going to be to cut spending and grow the economy and jobs,” said Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for Eric Cantor, the incoming majority leader. “Further, ObamaCare failed to lower costs as the president promised that it would and does not allow people to keep the care they currently have if they like it. That is why the House will repeal it next week.”

Outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the new majority of putting insurance companies back in charge of repealing patient rights.

Senate Democrats, including Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin, sent Rep. Boehner a letter insisting that any repeal effort that eliminates the “donut hole fix” on senior citizen purchases of prescription drugs is dead on arrival in the Senate.

Illinois Farm Bureau policy supports repeal of the health care law, especially its provision that will force self-employed people to begin filing an unnecessary and costly blizzard of Form 1099s starting next year.
