A Sunday night stroll through environmental cyberspace reveals an alternate universe

Several environmental groups have portions of their websites devoted to climate change. 

Those sites have rolled out new videos, put out action requests, and recognize that cap and trade has been put on the back burner.

A couple of groups, including Sierra Club, are fuming over media reports highlighting the errors in the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report.    Sierra Club president Carl Pope commented on a recent story critical of the IPCC in the New York Times — of all publications.

So it wasn’t just the Wall Street Journal that questioned the credibility of the organization that claims to be the “gold standard” for climate science and policy?   

The National Resources Defense Council highlights a new video featuring several Hollywood types calling on the U.S. Senate to pass climate change legislation. 

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, “This is Our Moment” incorporates all of the new focus group tested messages in support of what was once called “cap and trade,” now called “energy and climate bill with incentives”  or something like that.

Environmental Defense produced their own video featuring an ED economist extolling the virtues of cap and trade.   Another page on their site calls for 100,000 letters to 100 senators on 1 vote — the climate change bill.

The ED economist credits cap and trade for solving the nation’s acid rain problem.   That’s because the technology was there to solve the problem.  That’s not the case with the climate change bill.

We can’t build enough nuclear plants and get projects like FutureGen on line quickly enough to make up for the loss of fossil fuels under Waxman-Markey.   For IFB cap and trade talking points, click here.

Good old Friends of the Earth complains about the EPA’s decision on the Renewable Fuels Standard-2 paving the way for corn-based ethanol and soy-based biodiesel.    FOE is also calling for its members to send Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas a message for cosponsoring a resolution that would strip EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

Go to the Illinois Farm Bureau Legislative Action Center and write a short letter to our Senators asking them to oppose cap and trade and to support Sen. Lisa Murkowski (and Blanche Lincoln) in their effort to strip EPA of their authority to regulate CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions.
