Chairman Peterson to hold hearings on 2012 Farm Bill

January 5, 2010

Congress Daily reported today that House Agriculture Committee chair Colin Peterson will hold hearings “as early as this spring”  in preparation for the 2012 farm bill.   A committee spokesperson did not know how many or where hearings would be held.

In the past, Illinois Farm Bureau has convened task forces to study farm policy and prepare for upcoming farm bill debates.   The last of those task forces met in 2005 in preparation for the 2002 farm bill’s expiration.

Out of those Farm Policy Task Force meetings came policy proposals to maintain the market-based structure of the 2002 farm bill and for a revenue-based safety net which was incorporated in the 2008 farm bill.
