Cook CFB hosts Sen. Burris staff on farm tour

November 11, 2009

Cook County Farm Bureau leaders took a couple of Sen. Roland Burris’ Chicago-based staff members on a tour of suburban-based production agriculture.    At various stops, producers took time to explain the nuts and bolts of their operations, answer questions, and discuss legislative issues.

Cook County Farm Bureau leader Mike Rauch and his daughter hosted members of Sen. Roland Burris' staff on their farm in Tinley Park. Mike explained that high input prices last winter prompted them to plant more soybeans this year. Rauch's nearby field yielded about 50 bushels per acre.

Tuesday’s tour highlighted the area’s diverse agriculture and included stops at a south suburban horse farm, grain operation, greenhouse, and egg processing  facility.    Sen. Burris’ staff visited Kane County Farm Bureau last month.
